Wood Burning Pen kit
As a total amateure in pyrography I started with a simple wood burning kit that I bought in a local electronic gadgets shop.
Finding the right starter pyrography kit
Since there are quite a lot pyrography pen kits out there the first thing I did is some research online to find the right one. They come in endless verities and with a tone of different tips. All great for beginners and total amateurs that make their first step into the world of burning wood just like me. So I decided, that the kit should be relatively low cost and practical but the most important, that I can buy it somewhere close, like from local shop.
Plenty of things in the box

Pyrography kit, that I bought in the end, comes in a nice protective pvc box where everything is neatly placed and easy to grab. All kinds of different tips and stamps are the first thing that catch your eye. The pen itself is made out of durable plastic and is quite pleasant to hold in hand. To avoid getting burnt while the pen is still hot you also get a nice stand for the pen to rest on. This set also includes instructions manual with some basic guidelines on how to use the pen and safety tips to avoid any risk of injury when using this pyrography kit.
Burning tips and stamps
The Toolcraft pyrography kit includes 10 different tips and 9 stamps so it provides more than enough different tip profiles for every kind of a wood burning project.

Whether you are making a portrait, landscape, animals or something else you will need to use a combination of different tips to achieve the result you wish.

Flow tip
Are very useful for creating outlines and guidelines. They can also be used for shading small areas.

Cone tip
Because of the long narrow body of the tip it’s used mostly for very fine and detailed lines.

Universal tip
There are two types of universal tips in this kit. One with small and wider tip and one with long and narrow tip. The shape of this tip allows you to use it for fine detail work or for more larger shading areas.

Large shading tip
Large shading tip is a very handy and can save you a lot of time for covering large areas. Because of its pointed top it can also be used for detailed and sharp lines.

Calligraphy tip
If you like to experiment with lettering and decorate your work with text this calligraphy tip will be the best choice.

Pattern tip
This two types of pattern tips are mostly used for making decorative items or ornament designs.
If you wish to decorate your finished work with a little ornament design you can choose from nine different burning stamps to achieve a sweet, nice overall visual effect of your work.
Burning stamps

To wind up my experience and some final thoughts
One-temperature pyrography pen kit like this one from Toolcraft is a great tool for all beginners into wood burning art. With a lot of interchangeable brass tips and stamps that come in package, you can make your own art and let your creativity go wild by making your first pyrography projects. Just bear in mind that this kind of one-temperature pen is not meant for longer working hours. The pen will get really hot after a while and it will be very unpleasant and uncomfortable to hold it in the hand. So I suggest if you decide to give a pyrography a try then look for a wood burning pan with adjustable temperature. This way you will be able to work longer and your shading effects will look nicer and be alot easier to do.
Until next post wish you a lot of creativity in your work and peaceful mind.
