My first try in pyrography
I think it was in autumn 2018 when my better half expressed a wish to have a wood burning pen so that she could create some decorations and let her creativity go wild. Soon after, I decided to give it try and burn something on a piece of a plywood by myself.
Since we both are a passionate sport anglers and just love to spend time in the nature I decided to create my own trophy fish to put it on the wall.
Preparation is half the work
A good preparation is something that I didn’t pay too much attention at that time. So I grabbed a piece of a spare plywood that I found and cut it into final dimensions. After I had my drawing surface prepared I sketched directly onto plywood a rough design of a rainbow trout and of course the name of my trophy fish.

From a variety of tips in the kit I picked the thinnest that I could find and started to outline the name.
After the outlines were finished, I decided to shade the letters and give them a little more nicer look.

It’s fishing time
Unfortunately not it the real sense but It was time for me to add a missing trophy fish. The procedure was pretty much the same as I did with the text.

First I did the outlines of a trout and then burned some details in the fins. All done with the same thin tip as in lettering.
There are quite a variety of trout out there, but none of them looks like my trophy fish, so it was time to give a fish a little improvement and more realistic look. This is the part that got me a little scared because I wasn’t sure how the shading will turn out.

I guess my first pyrography project in the end turned out pretty nice. It was a great learning trip for me and I loved how it all turned out.

Once you start you can’t stop
While I was making my rainbow trout I was already thinking of which fish I could make next. In my mind a freshwater fish encyclopedia popped out and soon I made a list of my favorite fish that I could make and put on the wall, right next to my trophy trout.
In no time my pond soon got new fishes.

Largemouth Bass, Common Carp, Northern Pike and Wels Catfish together with Rainbow Trout are now decorating our fishing room and give a room more enjoyable and pleasant feeling and look.
And let the journey begin

During my fishing pyrography projects I soon realized that I was hooked and started creating more and more pieces.
I also started to research and learn more about different techniques and styles of wood burning that exists. With a great help of the Internet and Social media I found many great artists out there that I follow and find their work as a inspiration and a great help to improve my work, skills and technique.
Hope you liked my post and let me invite you to join me on my journey in the beautiful world of Pyrography also known as Wood burning. Until next time…
